Ice Skating

During our last meetup, the topic of a Tog festive meetup came up.  We decided we ice-skates-308633_960_720wanted a non pub meetup for our next meeting. As its a festive time of the year we picked ice skating. This actively only shows up in our fair city a few months of the year so why not make use of it. We will be making our way out to Dundrum next Tuesday. You will see someone in a tog tshirt.

cake_goneSoftware nerds will understand 🙂

Well the cake didn’t last long. What do you expect with a bunch of hungry hackers. Great to see everyone at our social evening tonight. Great to talk to some visitors too who are interested in joining up. Some interesting new ideas. Keep in touch with us as things are moving along steadily with TOG 3.0

Tog Hackerspace Designated Activity Company

IMG_0669Lots of things are changing with Tog not just our address. We are changing our internal structure to help the group grow. We have formed a Designated Activity Company or DAC for short. A DAC is a new company structure created by the Companies Act 2014. We will have to reaffirm a set of goals that we will have to strive to implement.

The objects for which the company is established are the promotion of innovation in science, technology, modern culture, and creative arts and the doing of all such other things as are incidental or conductive to the attainment of the above objective.

We will be publishing the new constitution and most details in the coming weeks. In the mean time we will be have a Social Meetup to celebrate. There will be cake.

Social Meetup

While we are still closed to the public, we thought it would be nice to see you all again.  We are going to have a social meetup this week in the Longstone. Feel free to bring the latest project or creation with you. We will be taking over the upstairs sections from 7.30pm.

August Open Social

streamersIt’s Open Social time again…. this coming Saturday 15th Aug. At the last Open Social in July, we were just a week away from Dublin Maker. The place was hectic with activity. This Open Social will see Toggers much more relaxed. Drop in and hang out for the evening. If you’ve never been to the social, or even TOG itself, you’ll find it a great alternative Saturday evening in town. Look around….talk to members and visitors about projects or things you’d like to do.

Talk about beer brewing to some of our brewer members or about locks to our lock pickers. Ask about joining as a full member. We’ve cleaned out the pizza oven and its ready to go. The space stays open until the last member is left……usually the small hours of Sunday morning. The open social is free to attend for members and visitors alike. Our doors will be open from 7pm.

Linux Jam in TOG

tuxWe’re having a Linux Jam in TOG on Saturday 16th May. Whether you’re a complete beginner and haven’t even opened the box of your shiny new board, or you want to explore Linux on your laptop, or you’re an experienced user who wants to hack a set top box, you’ll fit in.

This isn’t a class or instruction. It will be a relaxed informal atmosphere with other like-minded people. So the idea is to bring your Pi, Galileo, Laptop, Linux device etc. and play/use/hack. Bring tutorials, web links, instructions…. anything you like. Whoever you are from complete beginner to advanced….just work on whatever you want to do, and hopefully get some “bounce” off other people doing similar things. Several TOG members will be around too.

We’re asking for a small donation to attend the Jam. All proceeds go to keeping a roof over TOG’s head and are much appreciated. The space will be open from 10:30 with a nominal finish time of 19:00, but the open social is on that day, so the space will be open much later than this. You can sign up for the Linux Jam here.

Coincidentally, 16th May is the same day as our regular open social.  Our open social is a great way to see the space, hang out, meet other members & visitors. There’ll be all the usual madness of an open social. Weather permitting, there’ll be pizza. There may also be beer samples, courtesy of Capital Brewers at TOG. You might even get to pick some locks if our friendly lock pickers will show you some tricks. The space stays open until the last member is left…. usually the small hours of Sunday morning. The open social is free to attend.
