This hands on workshop will cover various aspects of soldering; from the basic techniques of soldering, to soldering electronic components to make simple circuits. Participants will learn how to solder and finish off the workshop with a kit they can bring home. Check out some photos from previous workshops in our gallery.

This is a friendly introductory tutorial to programming for the Arduino platform micro-controllers. Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators.
When you leave, we hope you have enough knowledge to go on and start your own programs.

On Saturday 6th of November, we are delighted to have John Looney from Google give a passionate talk about Open Source : A philosophy for Life. This talk also coincides with our normal lively Open Social nights. These nights are a great chance to come and meet the members of TOG and have a bit of fun. BYOB. The night kicks off at 7pm. All welcome.

After many years working in Google, John Looney realised that there were strong correlations between the way Google works internally, and the way the Open Source community works. It’s allow Google to stay reasonably flexible, despite growing it’s engineering teams past 10,000. In this talk, John examines various aspects of Open Source culture and how they can be mapped to a large organisation. This talk would be interesting to anyone who is curious how open source has managed to deliver such a stunning array of impactful projects and how large organisations can function efficiently. There will also be some discussion on how such culture that is certainly not unique to Google Engineering.
TOG will be hosting Ubuntu-ie as they hold a bug jam to coincide with global jam. The Ubuntu Global Jam (UGJ) is a a world-wide online and face-to-face event to get people together and work on
We want to get as many people online and in person fixing bugs, having a great time doing so. This is not only a great opportunity to really help Ubuntu, but to also get together with other Ubuntu enthusiasts and work on things as a group and help one another.
We will be hosting the event on the 28th of August opening at 10am until late.
