Warm up your soldering irons, thread your needles and fill the fridge with your beverage of choice. The 8th Synchronous Hackathon takes place this weekend.
We are kicking things off with an open social night on Friday from 7.30pm. If you haven’t been to the new space, it’s a great chance to drop in for a chat and have a look around. We promise we wont make you do any painting, well only if you want to :).
On Saturday and Sunday the hackathon starts at about 1pm each day until late. Feel free to come along and work on your own project for a few hours or give a hand around the space. There will be members hacking the space over the weekend running cable, power points, painting, putting together furniture and all sorts of things.
As always are events are open to all at no cost (expect classes).
update: Also will be having bit of a BBQ tomorrow starting around 5 ish see you there.
It was a good hackathon even with a lot of our members going to ossbarcamp on Saturday. Cheryl made some some significant progress on her led matrix top; namit got some sleep 😉 ; I made up a load of electroluminescent wire and started playing around with some ideas for the MAKE/MakerBot 3D printer giveaway!.
We also had some visitors including John who came along with his college friends from Leed’s (who were over for the Trinity Ball), and then decided to spend the day in TOG instead of going on a nice trip to Howth.
Thanks to all that took part and lets hope next month will be even bigger and better.
Come one, come all, to another Synchronous Hackathon at TOG this weekend!
Yes, it is also the OSSBarcamp this Saturday, so many of our members will only be around Sunday, but that just means more elbow room for the rest of us. Time to get out those space-hungry projects! I for one will be around with metres of fabric, handfuls of LEDs, and trying to put together an infrared controller. (There is a hope of having a go at making some paper, but that will depend on whether I can get the supplies together between now and then. Bring any old paper you want rid of just in case.) Others will be working on getting thin clients working, and playing with some new toys. (Ominious, no?)
You can see the kinds of things we normally get up to in previous posts: February, March, and St. Patrick’s. Anything and everything goes, whether you want to work or just look around and show off.
Officially it’s noon to 11pm both days, but we’re a very relaxed bunch of people. More information and details on location available on the blog.
There is no better day for being Irish than the 17th of March , St. Patrick’s day. We at TOG in Dublin , Ireland , think the best way for us to celebrate the day is to host a special edition of the hackathon.
For this one day hackathon we looking for people to do any projects relating to Ireland, being Irish , have the colour green in them or a bit of Guinness.
Some of the stuff we will be up to. Designing/building a big LED shamrock. Painting everything green. Trying to catch some leprecons. And anything else we think of after a few Guinness.
So all other hackerspaces, join us and be Irish for a day.
TOG members are preparing for another hackathon over the weekend of the 20th and 21st of March.
So what will happend? Well it’s up to you to decide. At last months hackathon participants experimented with 3D Scanning, Lilypad’s/sewing, soldering, microcontrollers, robotics, all night hacking, drinking and pizza. This month will be more of the same or add your favorite project.
Your not a member and would like to join us during the hackathon? Sure that’s not a problem, contact us through the website, mailing list or irc and let is know when you’ll be around and what your intrested in working on.
