2011-05-05 Electronics Bootcamp

We’re running our first electronics bootcamp. This event will take place over
5 weeks on Thursday evenings at TOG, from 19:00 to 21:30. First session
on Thursday 5th May.

This is a practical / hands-on introduction to electronics. Its suitable for
beginners, as no previous knowledge is required. If you’re curious about
electronics and don’t know where to start…. this is for you. No
soldering required, as we do everything on prototyping breadboards.
We’ll be building and testing circuits right from the first night. We’ll
be covering DC, AC, analog and digital electronics.

Over the 5 weeks, you’ll have a chance to play with multimeters,
oscilloscopes, signal generators and other electronic test equipment.
There’ll be lots of circuits to build and test along the way.

Cost is 50 euro for non-members. That’s just 10 euro per night. We have
a special rate of 40 euro for the unwaged.

If you’re interested, you can sign up below and you can pay on the first
night. There are 6 places available.

Course is now full, we will run it again in the future.

2011-04-17 Easter is coming!

Easter is coming up, and so is a really nice Easter workshop in TOG.

As some of you know, I moved to Austria two months ago. Since I’m coming for a visit next week, I decided to bring lots of nice things with me, to show you how we decorate for Easter back in Austria :).

The workshop will start by creating an Easter decoration from scratch, beginning with a raw piece of wood that needs to be grained and branches fresh from the tree that we will turn into a basket.

Once the hard woodwork is done, we’ll create chickens and butterflies out of wool and ribbons for the most colourful spring impression possible. There will also be plenty of flowers, pussy willows and lady bugs to complete our work of art.

To not leave our Easter basket empty, we will color and decorating eggs (that can still be eaten afterwards), as well as fill it with various chocolate goodies – a vital part of this holiday.

Fee: 15€ for non-members / 9€ for members (eggs and chocolate included)

Shamrock soldering workshop

In this Paddy’s Day themed workshop participants will be shown the steps involved in etching a PCB, basic surface mount soldering and will have a choice of Shamrock kits to assemble.

40 LED Shamrock – €12 Members, €14 Student/Unwaged, €16 General Public
68 LED Shamrock – €24 Members, €28 Student/Unwaged, €32 General Public
LED Shamrock Badge – €14 Members, €17 Student/Unwaged, €20 General Public

Most of these kits involved only basic surface mount soldering techniques, which even beginners should be able to handle. Additional kits from previous workshops will also be available.

LED Dot Matrix Display Workshop

Workshop Description:

During this workshop you will assemble your own Red/Green 8×8 Dot Matrix Display.

Starting with a quick introduction into how the display operates and leading on to an overview of how to convert a circuit into a physical device. You will then use strip board construction techniques to assemble the display.

Only basic soldering skills are required and as a larger project it forms a excellent opportunity to practice and perfect your soldering skills.

The circuit and software are designed to work with an Arduino or compatible device. Although other development boards should also be able to work with the display.

General Public €35.00, Students/Unwaged €30.00, TOG Members €25.00

Sunday 20th of February. 11:00 to 17:00

In TOG. See our location page.

P.S. We have 20 matrix kits and 10 soldering irons so if you can bring along your own iron that would be great.

Soldering Workshop

Workshop Description:

This hands on workshop will cover various aspects of soldering; from the basic techniques of soldering, to soldering electronic components to make simple circuits. Participants will learn how to solder and finish off the workshop with a kit they can bring home. Check out some photos from previous workshops in our gallery.

General Public €15.00, Students/Unwaged €12.00, TOG Members €10.00

Saturday 19th of February.  10:30 to 14:00
