“Enter the hacker world (no secret handshakes required.) Take a tour of the space and see what we are about. Have a go at some lockpicking, discuss brewing techniques with craft brewers, interact with tech art projects. Ask about the ducks!

TOG is a hackerspace run and funded by its ongoing members. It offers a modern studio-like space, with access to a large range of high tech equipment and a community of welcoming tech enthusiasts.”

TOG September Open Social

On Saturday 16th September from 19:00, we will be holding our regular Open Social evening. It will already have been a busy day in the space, with our Brewday on since 10:00.  Our Pizza Oven rev 3 is taking shape, and we might be able to give it a dummy run. We’ll also be preparing for Culture Night, which takes place just 6 days later, on Friday 22nd September.

If you’ve never been to our Social, you’ll find it a great alternative Saturday evening in town. Come in and look around. If you’ve never been in before, we’ll give you the grand tour of the space. Talk to members and visitors about projects or things you’d like to do. If you like what you see, ask about joining as a full member. Hopefully there’ll be caint, ceol agus craic as usual. The space stays open until the last member is left……usually the small hours of Sunday morning.

Our Open Socials are always free to attend for both members and visitors alike. No need to book…. just turn up. You can drop in for 10 minutes, or stay the whole night. We have parking available. Bring beer, food, gadgets! Our doors are open from 7PM. Hope to see you there.

TOG Open Brew Day (Saturday 16th September 10am)

TOG members and Capital Brewers return to TOG HQ on Saturday 16th September to host a brewday open to members of the public also. Hearty brews are on the menu, in both brewing with guidance and instructions from the experts, and tasting craft beer made at previous brew days! This is your chance to see all of the brewing equipment in TOG and get a tour of the space to see what else is happening in and around the space.

A very rough time-line of a brew day is as follows:

  • 10:00am – 11pm: Heating water, water treatment and mashing grain
  • 11pm – 1pm: Boiling & beer tasting from previous brews and visitors beers
  • 1pm – 3pm: Cooling and clean up

Every brew day is slightly different with a mix of brewers, recipes and techniques.  The long term goal would be to get a full set of brewing equipment that TOG members can use themselves in the space and make your own beer, cider or wine whenever you like! All you need are the ingredients. We are already well on our way to achieving that goal with several sets of equipment for members to choose from.

Brewing Equipment in TOG

Its always a fun and engaging day, the cost is free (donations are welcome) so come along, ask questions and even help with the brewing!

Wikipedia Editing Event

TOG is holding a workshop on how to edit Wikipedia on 30 August 2017, from 7pm, and will be monthly thereafter.

Ever wondered how to get started editing Wikipedia? Come along and will get you adding to the world’s largest open collaborative knowledge project. All are welcome, no editing experience is necessary and the event is free, just turn up with a laptop to start editing.

Any level of Wikimedia/Wikipedia editing experience is welcome. This is not a formal workshop, but an informal evening with an experienced Wikimedia editor on hand!

If Wikipedia isn’t to your taste, you can learn how to edit the huge linked database Wikidata, or add images to Wikimedia Commons.

The event starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. Note the space will be members only before 7pm.

Announcing Cyber Night

TOG is holding a Cyber Security evening starting 23rd August 2017 and every 2 weeks thereafter. This is an open night for people to work on projects, or study, cybersecurity / information security topics. You should have some understanding of the topic and must bring your own laptop to take part. The event is a shared study session, not a class.
Some ‘cyber’ resources are available – we have a dedicated pen test box for you to hone your skills against including Bricks, Security Shepherd and more.
We will do our best to point attendees in the right direction, but it will be expected that people will be comfortable with finding out information on their own – either with the books on hand, or search engine.
The event starts at 7pm and ends at 10pm. Note the space will be members only before 7pm.
