Our Open Social is back… Virtually on 15th August, 7pm

Because of COVID, we can’t hold our regular open social but we have a solution. We have a virtual place to meet. All you need is a browser (firefox is best) and an internet connection. This works on Computers and smartphones.

Jon the Open Social Now!

Mozilla Hubs is an experimental, VR-friendly platform and a tool for communicating and collaborating privately, and allows you to connect with people and bring in resources from around the internet for meetings and virtual events.

Let’s meet and talk about projects we are workong on or would like to work on. Or share some cool new tech or nice craft projects you found.

CryptoParty – Learn about online safety and security for free

TOG is hosting a CryptoParty on Saturday, 15th February at 6pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Poster with details of the Crypto Party in TOG Hackerspace, 22 Blackpits on Saturday 15th February at 6pm. The poster is in the style of an 80s computer screen

CryptoParty is a decentralized movement with events happening all over the world. The goal is to pass on knowledge about protecting yourself in the digital space. This can include encrypted communication, preventing being tracked while browsing the web, and general security advice regarding computers and smartphones. No experience is necessary. The idea here is for everyone to learn and share knowledge and the event is aimed at people who have no experience. We will be reccomending free and open source software. To try the tools and apps directly at the CryptoParty, bring your laptop or smartphone

For insurance reasons, anyone who attends is required to sign into TOG’s registration system.

After the CryptoParty. You are welcome to stay for TOG’s open social evening.

Free Software Founcation Europe Logo

At the Chaos Communications Congrass a few years ago I met with the Free Software Foundation Europe (fsfe.org) and was impressed with their work. They advocate for free software and are working on a campaign called Public Money Public Code (publiccode.eu).

TOG will be hosting a meetup for members of FSFE and anyone interested in free software on Monday, 20th January at 7pm. Everyone is welcome, details about the venue on www.tog.ie.

Open Community Hackathon for Sustainability Week, Saturday 21th September

On 21 September 2019 we are joining the European Day of Sustainable Communities. #SustainableCommunity #EDSC19

The day celebrates local communities taking action for a zero-carbon, regenerative and inclusive Europe.  All those who are catalysing transformation in the face of ecological and climate breakdown are invited to become co-creators of the day.

We are hosting a free community hackathon. Feel free to work on any projects you want, but try and have a sustainability theme. Repair something that is broken instead of throwing it out or make use of recycled materials. Feel free to stay around for our social evening. Bring a project and your laptop. More details here.

We invite you to join us or to organise your own event to mark the day – it can be as simple or as ambitious as you like.
