A new toy

Following on from my recent post and post on building a CNC router. We just received a new toy today.

CNC Mill

Many thanks to Anthony for giving TOG this old Contour Minor CNC Milling Machine. The mill is in good working order, though it does rely on some old MS-DOS based software (I’ve already checked that it works with FreeDOS), I’m hoping we’ll be able to get it going with LinuxCNC.

  1. Hi there, wonder if you could help me. I have one of these contour minor’s also but yet to get it converted to run on windows. Could you please help me with a query i have…What are the xyz travel limits? As i can’t power mine i can’t measure its movement. I’m desperately trying to get hold of a manual but can’t get one from anywhere..

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jamie

  2. Sorry to be a pain, but i’m sure my Z travel looks more than 100mm. Still not on power yet so i can’t check. Can you confirm the Z travel please rob?
    Thanks Jamie

  3. Yes your correct, the exact value will depend on the chuck and bits you are using. I got the 100mm value from the software protocol I’ve been decoding. At a guss the full travel would be closer to 200mm.

  4. I have just got a Contour Minor but without documentation or software. I notice you have a manual, is it possible to get a copy of it and maybe the software? My machine seems more or less functional, and I can get a reply from it over the serial line. If I knew what were the commands to send to it, it would be a step in the right direction! I would be grateful for any help. Than you.

  5. Hello David,
You can drop by and take photos of it or scan it but we can’t copy it for you as it might breach copyright

  6. Hello everybody:

I am a mechanical engineering student and I am doing my final project. It consist in creating a production line for a wooden chessboard mechanized by a Contoru Minor milling machine. Does someone have original planes of this machine? I am doing a 3D design of it and I would be very greatful if someone would send me its planes.

If not, could you tell me which is the manufacturer of this machine?

    Thank you for your help!
